Welcome to iconic Motors, Here we are reviewing the iconic vintage brand cars launched by the Hindustan Motors (HM). Of course these two cars are undoubtedly one of the most successful iconic Indian cars. Let's look around the history of these motors. HM founded by the Birla industrial group, in partnership with British automotive - Morris Motors. Ambassador and the contessa are the main featured cars of this manufacture. HM started their first production of the ambassador from 1958 and discontinued in 2014 by launching the BS4 engines. In this production life time few improvements and changes are only added, coming to the Hindustan contessa production began from 1984 and the final production in 2002. Hindustan was tied-up with Isuzu of Japan and started manufacturing their engines for these motors in India at this life time.

4 cylinders, 4 valve contessa have 1.8 liter petrol, 2 liter diesel, 2 liter turbo diesel engines. Which delivers 85 bhp of power at 5000 rpm and 13.8 kgm of torque at 3000rpm. ARAI claimed around 14.1 kmpl mileage for contessa. 64 liter tank capacity, 5 seater , 4 doors, 2667mm wheel base, 1200kg kerb weight of contessa have tyre size of 165/SR15.  Price of this car is around 4.83lkh (ex-showroom).

HM launched their final model in 2004 with BS4 complaint engine named 'Encore' around 4.98lkh as an exshwroom price.1817cc petrol, 1489 and 1995 cc Diesel, 1817 cc CNG, 1995 cc LPG are the types of engines in the ambassador. ARAI claimed mileage of around 10 to 13.5km/kg, 5 seater family sedan car produce 75ps power at 5000 rpm and 130 Nm torque at 3000 rpm. 165/80R15 radial tyre are used.
